Summary
The role of the College Counselor is to advise students and parents through the college application process. The College Counselor will counsel students in grades 9-12, together with three more counselors, in developing and enhancing their student profiles. The College Counselor will support students by helping them identify their strengths and interests through self-reflective practices, meetings, and workshops and is responsible for administering aspects of the college search and admissions process.
Position available from : September 2023
Contract details: initially on a two-year contract: The position is a full-time position which however, depending on the strengths and availability of applicants, may instead be split into two part-time positions (half of the full-time schedule).
Reports to: The College Counselor reports to the Director of College Counseling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The College Counselor:
- Informs students and parents of the general college admissions processes, trends, procedures, and standardized tests for US/Canada, EU, UK, and Asian institutions.
- Assists the Director of the College Counseling office in designing the curriculum for and teaching development workshops.
- Meets with students to discuss future curricular paths (International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and Greek Lyceum, as needed).
- Provides one-on-one guidance, resources, and materials to students to set achievable academic and personal goals.
- Assists students in discovering their strengths and interests through self-reflection.
- Guides students in selecting academic courses and extracurricular activities that aid in their personal development and align with their future aspirations.
- Compiles lists of institutions (college lists) that meet individual students academic interests, values, and needs.
- Assists in compiling data and information for the annual School Profile.
- Assists the counseling team in developing content, announcements, etc. for the office newsletter.
- Creates content for and directs informational presentations to parents and students.
- Updates the Moodle page accordingly.
- Is aware of trends and issues in college admission, and higher education, as well as keeps up to date about specific colleges in the US/Canada, EU, UK, and Asia.
- Coordinates office archive platforms and manages materials.
- Advises students grades 7-12 on summer academic and enrichment programs.
- Works alongside the Administrative Officer in processing Summer Program applications.
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with colleagues for collaboration.
College Presentations (in-person & virtual)/Visits
- Meets with college admissions representatives who visit our campus and facilitates meetings between college representatives and students.
- Attends dinners and cultural outings with guests as deemed necessary.
- Collaborates with Coordinator of Social Responsibility Programs; meets with CSRP to discuss potential internship and social responsibility opportunities for college-bound students. Meets with and advises students regarding aforementioned opportunities.

Educational background
- A Bachelors's or Master's Degree in a related field of study/education from an accredited US or European college or university
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities, Experience
- Demonstrated experience working with young adults
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (oral and written fluency skills in both English and Greek are mandatory)
- Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
- Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse and demanding student and parent population.
- General knowledge of US/Canadian, EU, UK, and Asian colleges, their academic programs, admission policies, and financial policies and procedures
