Overview of the Position

The school psychologist provides support to students, faculty, staff, and parents who are experiencing social, emotional, and/or learning difficulties within the school setting. In addition, the psychologist provides wellness opportunities for all members of the school community. The aim of the psychologists work is to ensure the well-being of each individual while enhancing the teaching and learning environment for each of them.

Scope of the Position

The school psychologist reports to the Principal and works closely with students, teachers, parents, learning specialists, and the Administration. It is a full time position.

Responsibilities

Provide individual and group counseling services to meet the social, developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students.

Consult with students, parents, and teachers to assist in meeting the needs of students.

Collect and interpret test results and other student data and share results with the Principal, teachers, and parents.

Work closely with the learning specialists to assist teachers and students with learning differences of students (ex. dyslexic, ADHD, high achieving, at risk students)

Design and implement special interest workshops based on the needs of the current student body, faculty, and parents

Take a lead role in the development and implementation of the schools Advisory, Health, and Wellbeing program.

Contribute to creating a climate of balance for all school community members

Adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession and abide by the mission and the vision of the school.

Possibly teach one High School Psychology class

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Psychology
  • Native or near native speaker of English
  • Interest, initiative, and energy to thrive in a lively and fast-paced school setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience working in an English-speaking school is preferred
