Assistant/Associate Dean for Research
The Anatolia American University–U.L.E. (hereinafter “Anatolia University”) is the tertiary division of Anatolia, one of the leading non-for-profit educational organizations in Greece with a rich history that goes back to 1886. In Greece, Anatolia University is one of the four non-state universities recognized by the Greek Ministry of Education and accredited by the Hellenic Authority of Higher Education (HAHE). Additionally, the institution is validated by the British Open University and accredited in the U.S. by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The university operates on a beautiful campus overlooking the city of Thessaloniki, Greece.
Anatolia University invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Dean for Research (hereinafter “Dean of Research”), a key academic leadership role dedicated to advancing the institution’s research mission, strengthening external partnerships, and expanding the portfolio for global funding. Effective Fall 2026, the position is a full-time assignment for one year, renewable upon agreement of all parties.
Reporting to Anatolia University’s Dean, the Dean for Research will provide strategic leadership in fostering a robust research culture across the institution and maximize funding uptake. This role is responsible for mapping the university’s strengths versus funding programs, developing research capacity, supporting faculty in pursuing external funding, and enhancing institutional visibility and competitiveness within international research arenas. Additionally, it is expected that the Dean will hold a faculty appointment in one of the programs of study offered by the university with reduced teaching load.
A central priority for the position is aligning Anatolia University’s strengths (in business, biological sciences, humanities and computing) with appropriate EU programs such as Horizon & Erasmus+ and other national, U.S. and international collaborative programs to maximize chances. The successful candidate will serve as an expert resource on funding mechanisms and will guide faculty through the complexities of proposal development, consortium building, compliance, and project implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to advance the research agenda of the university.
- Support faculty in identifying, preparing, and submitting competitive proposals for national and international funding opportunities—with a strong emphasis on EU-funded programs.
- Develop tools, workshops, and support structures that enhance faculty readiness for research collaborations and multi-institutional consortia.
- Build and sustain partnerships with U.S. and European universities, research centers, funding agencies, and international networks.
- Chair the University’s Research Committee and coordinate with relevant Anatolia administrative units to ensure compliance, budgeting accuracy, and reporting for funded projects.
- Promote interdisciplinary and international research initiatives across the university’s three schools.
- Mentor faculty—particularly early-career researchers—in developing long-term research trajectories and competitive funding profiles.
- Oversee and contribute to internal seed funding programs, research development initiatives, and university-level strategic planning.
- Represent the college in Anatolia-wide research committees and initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from an accredited university in a field relevant to the university’s offerings.
- Academic credentials and disciplinary background appropriate for holding a faculty appointment in one of the programs of study offered by the university.
- A strong and active research portfolio with a record of external funding.
- Demonstrated experience in securing, managing, or supporting research funding or extensive experience in EU proposal development processes.
- Evidence of successful leadership in research development, research administration, or interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills. Please note that the official language of Anatolia University is English; proficiency in written and oral English is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
Possessing academic credentials from a U.S. or U.K. university.
- Experience in EU consortia formation and international partnership development.
- Familiarity with administrative, financial, and compliance requirements specific to EU research projects.
Experience mentoring faculty or leading research development teams.
- Prior academic leadership experience (departmental, college, or research center level).
- Knowledge of comparative funding landscapes in both European and U.S. contexts.
