As such we are recruiting on their behalf for an Experienced Senior Environmental & Social Consultant to join their professional team, comprising a diverse group of highly qualified professionals delivering world-class sustainable solutions and strategies to their clients spread across 5 continents.

Position:

Consultant - Environmental & Management Consultancy

Please note: This is a technical position and is ideally aimed at someone who has between 5 and 10 years of similar consulting experience.

Opportunity:

We are seeking a suitable candidate for the role of Senior Consultant within our environmental and management consultancy, based in Dubai, UAE.

The successful candidates will work as part of our team to deliver technical studies and reports primarily for regulatory and lender submissions and approvals. The role will involve various scopes of work on high-profile and demanding project types and will include environmental, social, governance and management elements. This will require forward facing Client interaction with a view towards Project Management. Ideally your career will be at the point where you are about to or just have transitioned from an entry-level role within a similar consultancy environment.

If you are the ideal candidate, you will be an all-rounder with a keen interest in the environmental, social & governance fields and will understand and have the ability to undertake SEA, EIA/ESIA, EMS/ESMS development, Auditing, Environmental, Social & Governance workstreams, Due Diligence, field surveys, amongst various work streams.

The vast majority of our environmental planning work is for or on behalf of lenders or projects that are seeking/have sought international finance. Therefore, the quality of work and interaction expected from this role needs to be commensurate with bankable lending standards, such as those of the Equator Principles, IFC, EBRD, ADB, AfDB and others. Our work and performance are also scrutinized and held to account by regulators in the countries that we operate in.

You will be a self-starter and able to multitask, be energetic and have the desire to succeed. You will believe in collegiality, be culturally aware and be able to fit into a small but diverse team. Time management, being organised and efficiency are critical attributes in a fast-paced consulting role, as is a good sense of humor. If you have knowledge of or experience of living and working overseas, it would be a distinct advantage. Excellent written English language ability is essential, but a second language would be an advantage.

Special Requirements:

  • Knowledge of lender and IFI requirements and how these relate to projects (such as Equator Principles III, IFC Performance Standard, WBG EHS Guidelines, OECD Common Approaches, EBRD Performance Requirements etc.) (would be highly advantageous).
  • Ability to understand the issues, consider the bigger picture and give sound technical advice (mandatory).
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultured team in a fast-paced working environment (mandatory).
  • Ability to be a self-starter, to work well in a small close-knit team, and to take the lead on Projects (mandatory).
  • Ability to prepare technical and accurate documentation in a professional language/terminology (mandatory).
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and prepare written reports to a high quality (mandatory).
  • Ability to be client facing and to deliver confident and accurate advisory in person/on calls/in documented deliverables and emails (mandatory).
  • Competency with Microsoft Office (mandatory).
  • Ability to use GIS (advantageous).

Work Experience Requirements:

  • 5-10 years experience
  • Consultancy experience in a similar field (would be highly advantageous)
  • Experience in the GCC and MENA region (would be advantageous).
  • Experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia and other emerging economies (would also be advantageous).

Educational & Training Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Environment/Social Science based field (mandatory).
  • Masters degree in a relevant field (would be highly advantageous).
  • Training in regard to EIA, ESIA, EMS/ESMS (would be advantageous).
  • Training in regard to auditing, such as ISO14001:2015 Lead Auditor certification (would be advantageous).

Language Requirements:

  • English - requires fluency in Reading, Writing and speaking (mandatory)
  • Arabic or French (would be advantageous)
  • Spanish, Thai, Vietnamese, Mandarin/Cantonese (would also be useful)

Professional Certification or Membership Requirements:

  • CIWEM, IEMA or other relevant professional membership (would be advantageous).

Location & Travel:

  • The location of this position is in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
  • International travel may be expected on occasions, which may require travel at late notice for several days.

Reporting to:

  • Operations Manager (as Line Manager)

Term, Salary & Benefits:

  • Permanent contract with monthly salary (commensurate with experience and suitability).
