Role Summary
Position: Head of Sales & Business Development (Co-Founder / Chief Commercial Officer)
Business: A fast-growing cross-border startup focused on importing premium fresh fruits and vegetables into Singapore and Malaysia, with sourcing, operations, and cold chain logistics already established by the founding team.
Mission: Full ownership of sales, revenue, and market development to build a profitable SG–MY fresh produce import business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead B2B sales and business development in Singapore and Malaysia with wholesalers, distributors, supermarkets, foodservice players, and online retailers.
- Build and convert a strong pipeline into recurring weekly orders and container shipments, achieving clear monthly FCL and margin targets.
- Own pricing strategy, volume programs, and key account relationships, including quality/claims management and retention, in collaboration with the founding team.
- Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for new product categories and seasonal programs.
- Monitor market intelligence (pricing trends, competitor activity, promotions) and feed insights into sourcing and pricing decisions.
- Shape commercial strategy with the founding team, including product mix, channel priorities, and long-term market penetration.
- Lay the foundation for a scalable sales organization, including processes, CRM, and future team structure.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 8 years of experience in fresh fruit and vegetable trading or perishable supply chain in Singapore or Malaysia, including 3–5 years in a senior commercial or frontline leadership role.
- Strong, active buyer network across wholesalers, distributors, and supermarkets.
- Deep understanding of product quality specs, seasonality, and claims handling; confident negotiator with F&V buyers.
- Entrepreneurial and highly hands-on, comfortable being measured on volume, margin, and customer performance.
- Strategic thinker with excellent customer rapport and ability to drive growth in a lean startup environment.
- Nice to have: Experience with Vietnam produce and categories like sweet potatoes, leafy greens, dragon fruit, and pineapple; prior experience in an early-stage or startup environment (comfort with ambiguity, building processes from scratch).
