Were currently supporting a Londonbased local authority to recruit an Income Recovery Officer, specialising in housing benefit overpayment recovery across the community.
The Opportunity
In this role, you'll join a 13strong team focused on the recovery of housing benefit overpayments. You'll work with an empathetic, socially aware approach to debt recovery balancing efficiency with the needs of vulnerable service users. You'll be responsible for pursuing outstanding overpayments, providing advice and guidance internally and externally, and ensuring target achievement within allocated timeframes.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively recover housing benefit overpayments via telephone, written communication and legal action
- Meet and exceed recovery objectives and deadlines
- Advise internal teams and external services on debt management processes and best practice
- Use systems such as Northgate or SAP to track cases, update records and report outcomes
- Maintain an empathetic, professional approach to vulnerable clients while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks
About You
Experience in income recovery, housing benefit overpayment or debt collection in a public sector setting
Knowledge of housing benefit legislation, debt recovery law and best practice
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail
Familiarity with Northgate Housing Benefit system or SAP (desirable)
Comfortable working hybrid and liaising with internal/external stakeholders
Commitment to high publicservice standards and community wellbeing
Whats On Offer
£38,934 £40,775 salary, depending on experience
