Retail Manager Bookstore & Café
An experienced and enthusiastic Retail Manager is needed to lead the daily operations of a combined bookstore and café, ensuring excellent customer service, smooth operations, and achievement of sales goals. The role includes team leadership, inventory management, and maintaining high presentation standards.
Main Responsibilities:
- Operational Management:
. Oversee day-to-day operations of both the bookstore, lifestyle retail and café to ensure a seamless customer experience.
. Monitor and maintain store standards, cleanliness, visual merchandising, and overall store presentation.
. Ensuring Store Clean, well-organized (Japan Standard); visually appearing, maintaining security measures to prevent theft and fraud.
. Coordinate with the Merchandising department to make sure for book, lifestyle retail and café inventory orders, ensuring timely replenishment and stock accuracy - Sales & Financial Performance:
. Sales and Promotion: Managing Promotion and setting up displays to attract customers and boost more sales.
. Manage daily cash handling, sales transactions, and financial reporting.
. Analyze sales trends, develop promotions, and recommend strategies to increase sales and customer engagement.
. Ensure sales targets, profitability, and customer satisfaction goals are met. - Staff Management:
. Recruit, train, and supervise retail and café staff.
. Schedule shifts, manage attendance, and oversee team performance.
. Foster a positive work environment and motivate the team to deliver excellent service.
. Train employees on customer service, product knowledge, and efficient service for the bookstore, lifestyle retail and F&B sectors. - Customer Service:
.Ensure exceptional customer service standards across both bookstores and café.
. Excellent customer service with strong product knowledge, ensuring a positive shopping experience.
. Resolve customer complaints or issues promptly and professionally.
. Build relationships with regular customers and create community engagement initiatives. - Inventory & Stock Control:
. Oversee books, lifestyle retail and café product inventory management, stock levels, and ordering processes.
. Conduct regular stock takes and manage loss prevention.
6. Marketing & Event:
. Plan and execute in-store events such as book launches, author signings, and reading sessions.
. Collaborate with marketing teams for promotional campaigns and social media activities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
. Proven experience as a Retail Manager, preferably in a bookstore, café, or lifestyle retail setting.
. Minimum 8 yrs and above with at least 1500 sqm flooring retail experience.
. Strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking skills.
. PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act): Implementing continuous improvement processes for business operations.
. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
. Passion for books, literature, and café culture.
. Financial acumen with experience in managing budgets, sales targets, and inventory.
. Proficiency in POS systems, inventory software, and basic Microsoft Office tools.
Education & Experience:
. Degree in Business Administration, or a related field;
. Minimum 8 yrs and above with at least 1500 sqm flooring retail experience;
. 5 years experience in Front store operations.
. Possess strong negotiation skills and can arrive at win-win solutions with partners and suppliers;
. Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
. Strong analytical skills and comfortable dealing with numerical data and systems;
. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment;
. Advanced skills in MS Office Suite.
. Fluent in English, competency in either Japanese or other language valuable but not required
Working hours:
Up to 48 hours per week; primary workdays are Monday to Sunday with Roster Schedule and work outside of office hours required on occasions
