Job Summary:
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Retail Manager/ Merchandise Manager to lead the operations of our client's store, combining books, lifestyle products, and a café experience. This role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, driving sales, managing inventory, and ensuring store operations meet Japanese retail standards.
Main Responsibilities:
Operations & Store Presentation
- Oversee daily operations across bookstore, lifestyle retail, and café areas
- Ensure store cleanliness, organization, and visual merchandising are up to standard
- Work with the merchandising team to manage inventory and stock replenishment
- Maintain security and loss prevention measures
Sales & Financials

Drive sales and achieve monthly targets

Develop and implement promotional activities and displays

Handle daily sales reporting, cash handling, and basic financial analysis

Track sales trends and suggest strategies to improve performance
Team Management
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise retail and café staff
- Foster a positive and service-oriented team environment
- Conduct performance reviews and ensure training on service standards and product knowledge
Customer Experience
- Ensure high standards of customer service across all areas
- Resolve customer complaints effectively and professionally
- Build relationships with customers and encourage return visits
- Plan and support community engagement events (e.g., book signings, reading sessions)
Main Requirements:
- 8+ years of retail management experience, ideally in bookstores, lifestyle, or F&B
- Experience managing stores with 1,500+ sqm floor space
- Strong leadership, multitasking, and organizational skills
- Comfortable with PDCA practices for process improvement
- Financial acumen and proficiency in POS, inventory systems, and MS Office
- Fluent in English; Japanese or other languages a plus
- Passion for books, community spaces, and café culture
