About the job Lead Nuclear Electrical Engineer
Now Hiring: Lead Nuclear Electrical Engineer | Capital Projects | Remote-Friendly
Remote | 11-Month Contract
Are you a seasoned nuclear power systems engineer ready to lead high-impact capital projects for one of the nation's premier energy organizations? AP Recruiters & Associates, a veteran-owned staffing firm serving the industry since 2007, is actively sourcing a Lead Nuclear Electrical Engineer to support critical infrastructure development at a world-class nuclear facility. This is a remote-eligible contract role offering competitive pay and the opportunity to work on precedent-setting engineering challenges.
What You'll Do:
- Serve as the technical lead for capital project electrical engineering, interfacing directly with external engineering firms on project development and document preparation
- Prepare and review engineering design documents, standalone electrical calculations, and procurement specifications in accordance with applicable nuclear industry and regulatory standards
- Perform or oversee power systems analysis including load flow, short circuit analysis, arc flash studies, and coordination studies using tools such as ETAP and EDISON
- Apply working knowledge of nuclear safety systems including NSCA/safe shutdown analysis (Appendix R/NFPA 805) and ladder logic development
- Prepare and verify design output documents such as design change packages, calculations, and engineering specifications for internally developed modifications
- Ensure compliance with 10CFR50.59, nuclear industry standard design processes, and independent design verification requirements
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide technical oversight as a cognizant or project oversight engineer when required
What You Bring:
- Minimum 12 years of nuclear engineering experience at U.S. nuclear power plants (domestic nuclear experience required; fossil, renewables, or international experience does not qualify)
- Strong background in power systems engineering — NOT instrumentation & control, sensors, analog/digital electronics, or cybersecurity
- Proficiency with nuclear electrical equipment including molded case circuit breakers, motor starters, switchgear (LV & MV), EDGs, battery systems (125Vdc), industrial inverters/UPS, transformers, main generators, and voltage regulators
- Working knowledge of nuclear industry standards, 10CFR50.59, and the nuclear standard design process
- Experience preparing stand-alone electrical calculations and procurement specifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (PE license preferred and may substitute for degree)
- Prior experience as a cognizant/oversight engineer or in engineering project management is a plus; design/project engineering experience must outweigh PM experience
