Overview
Our client is a leading national operator of renewable energy assets, committed to building a sustainable future. We are seeking a Solar Commissioning & Repair Technician for a critical contract role supporting their distributed generation (DG) solar portfolio in New York.
This is a hands-on, field-based position for a technician who will be responsible for the final commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and utility-scale solar sites. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver with deep electrical and mechanical expertise, comfortable working independently across multiple sites to ensure systems are operational, safe, and performing to specification.

Schedule: 40 hours/week, Variable Shift
Travel: Up to 75% (primarily within NY region)
Key Responsibilities
- Execute commissioning plans for new DG solar installations, including inverter startup, SCADA/communications validation, and utility interconnection testing.
- Diagnose and repair complex issues with PV modules, string inverters, central inverters, combiner boxes, and balance-of-system components.
- Specialize in troubleshooting and repairing single-axis solar tracker systems (e.g., Valmont), including motor replacement, motor control card (MCC) diagnostics, and managing RMA processes.
- Perform detailed electrical testing: IV curve tracing, thermal imaging (IR), string testing, megger testing, and grounding verification.
- Maintain accurate commissioning logs, repair reports, and site documentation.
- Coordinate with third-party contractors, engineering teams, and grid operators to ensure safe and compliant site operations.
- Adhere to and enforce all company and industry safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 70E).
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Solar Energy, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in solar PV installation or commissioning
- Working knowledge of DC and AC electrical systems up to medium voltage
- Proficiency with electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, clamp meters, IV curve tracers, and meggers
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel to multiple project sites as needed
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to walk and work across large field sites with varying terrain
Preferred:
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) or Associate certification
- Experience with single-axis tracker platforms such as Valmont, Terrasmart, or Array Technologies
- Familiarity with Also Energy SCADA and remote monitoring systems
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience working on brownfield, landfill, or environmentally sensitive sites
