Senior Project Manager, Interconnection Services (Contract)

Overview
Our client is a leading force in the North American renewable energy sector, driving the transition to a sustainable future. We are seeking a seasoned Senior Project Manager to play a pivotal role within their Interconnection Services team. This is a high-impact, contract position where you will be the technical and procedural expert managing the full lifecycle of generator interconnection projects within key regional transmission organizations (RTOs/ISOs). Your work will be critical to bringing new renewable generation assets online and supporting the company's strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the generator interconnection process from application filing through to final agreement execution for projects within the MISO and SPP regions.
- Act as the primary subject matter expert on interconnection, providing guidance to internal project development, originations, and M&A teams.
- Oversee queue management, including the review and analysis of System Impact Studies (SIS), Facility Studies, and associated interconnection studies.
- Negotiate and manage Generator Interconnection Agreements (GIAs) and amendments with Transmission Owners (TOs) and the ISOs.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and external consultants to evaluate study results, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies for interconnection constraints.
- Ensure compliance with all NERC reliability standards and ISO/RTO procedural requirements throughout the interconnection lifecycle.
- Support due diligence for merger & acquisition (M&A) activities and greenfield project development from an interconnection perspective.
Requirements
- 11-15 years of progressive experience in the electric utility or renewable energy industry, with a strong focus on transmission planning and generator interconnection.
- Deep, hands-on experience with the interconnection processes of MISO and/or SPP is essential.
- Strong power systems engineering background with a thorough understanding of steady-state, dynamic, and short-circuit analysis.
- Proven experience using industry-standard analytical tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PowerGEM TARA, TSAT, and/or ASPEN.
- Expert knowledge of NERC reliability standards and transmission planning principles.
- Demonstrated success in negotiating complex agreements with utilities and ISOs.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple high-stakes projects simultaneously.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical field. A Master's degree or PE license is a strong plus.
