BESS Project Manager - Drive Clean Energy Innovation

Location: Juno Beach, FL 33408
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Compensation: Up to $76/hour DOE

Overview of the Role

Join a dynamic Engineering & Construction team where you'll coordinate cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from early development through construction readiness. As a BESS Project Manager, you'll orchestrate complex, multi-million dollar renewable energy projects that span the United States and Canada, playing a pivotal role in America's clean energy transformation.

This position offers the unique opportunity to manage multiple high-impact projects simultaneously, each at different stages of development. You'll coordinate highly matrixed teams across Development, Engineering, Estimating, Supply Chain, and Scheduling functions, ensuring seamless project execution from pre-construction planning through successful handover to construction teams. Your expertise will directly influence project feasibility, budget approvals, and the successful deployment of innovative energy storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily project activities for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from early development through construction readiness
  • Lead highly matrixed project development teams to ensure resources are focused on critical activities to meet project schedules
  • Develop and optimize project technical scope to improve both technical and financial feasibility
  • Coordinate environmental, regulatory, cultural, land acquisition, and interconnection activities to ensure all project variables are incorporated
  • Support Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Grid Interconnection Agreement (GIA) negotiations with origination and development teams
  • Develop comprehensive financial models and present to business units for executive budget approvals
  • Competitively source, negotiate, and execute commercial contracts for critical services including geotechnical, survey, engineering, and EPC/PC construction
  • Coordinate engineering, estimating, and procurement requirements across multiple departments
  • Actively seek out and leverage market data to ensure financial models remain healthy and competitive
  • Engage with Executive Leadership, Suppliers, Regulatory Agencies, and Local Communities as a key stakeholder
  • Present project progress and risk mitigation strategies in meetings with various levels of management
  • Ensure seamless project handover to Construction Project Managers with comprehensive, executable construction plans
  • Support process improvements and efficiency initiatives to enable scalable growth
  • Travel occasionally to project sites across the US and Canada, and support Development with local public hearings

Required Skills & Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of project management experience in engineering, construction, or energy development
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance/Accounting, or equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects with varying timelines and stakeholders
  • Strong financial acumen with experience developing and presenting financial models
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding communication abilities for interfacing with executive leadership, agencies, and communities
  • Experience coordinating highly matrixed, cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize project variables for improved feasibility
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record (no alcohol/drug offenses in past 5 years)

Preferred:

  • Experience with renewable energy or battery energy storage projects
  • Knowledge of electricity markets and energy storage systems
  • Familiarity with Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and Grid Interconnection Agreements (GIA)
  • Background in the energy or utilities sector
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and financial modeling expertise
  • Experience with regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions
  • Background in contract negotiation and commercial agreements
  • Agile methodology or Six Sigma experience
