Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The RN will perform essential nursing functions, delegate assignments, provide training, and serve as a liaison between healthcare professionals, individuals served, and their families. This role requires excellent clinical skills, strong organizational abilities, and a commitment to providing high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Skilled Nursing Functions: Perform catheterization, administration of injectable medications, calculation of medication dosages, gastric tube feedings, invasive procedures, sterile procedures, and receipt of verbal or telephone orders from licensed prescribers.
- Delegation: Delegate assignments to Licensed Practical Nurses and Clinical Aide staff. Instruct MAC Workers on proper medication administration techniques.
- Medication Management: Check in medications monthly and as needed, ensuring accuracy regarding physicians’ orders. Make changes on Medication Administration Records (MARs) as needed.
- Follow-Up Care: Review records of individuals served post-hospital or clinic appointments and ensure physician orders are carried out.
- Training: Provide in-service training for staff on precautionary measures for communicable diseases and specific medical treatments as ordered by physicians.
- Assessment: Visit agency homes to assess post-hospital individuals and ensure physician orders are carried out.
- Liaison: Serve as a liaison between healthcare professionals, individuals served, and their family members.
- Documentation: Maintain records of individuals served and complete documentation regarding care provided. Handle monthly Medicaid billing for skilled nursing services.
- Medication Delegation: Delegate and monitor the administration of prescribed medications by unlicensed staff. Serve as on-call nurse in the Nurse Delegation Program on a rotating basis.
- MAR Preparation: Check medications for community individuals and prepare MARs for day/work programs.
- Meetings and Education: Attend in-service education programs, staff meetings, and other required trainings.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Licensure: Must be a Registered Nurse licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Experience: At least one year of nursing experience preferred; experience in acute care is a plus.
- Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities.
- Requirements: Reliable transportation, valid Alabama driver’s license, and insurability by agency insurance.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent lifting, standing, walking, pulling, restraining, and walking up and down stairs.
- Ability to perform outdoor physical activities and drive an Arc vehicle.
