The curriculum begins with the UK Early Years Foundation Stage and blends the English National Curriculum with inquiry-based approaches in Primary. In Secondary, students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP), progressing to the IB Diploma (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP) in Years 12 -13.
The Role: Secondary Design Teacher (Years 713)
We are seeking an experienced, innovative, and forward-thinking Secondary Design Teacher to join the schools dynamic Secondary team. This is a full-time position teaching Design across Years 7 - 13, supporting students as they explore design thinking, creativity, and problem-solving through practical, real-world contexts.
The ideal candidate will bring strong subject knowledge, a passion for hands-on learning, and a deep understanding of contemporary design education. Familiarity with the IB MYP and DP Design curricula is preferred, but not essential. The ability to contribute to Robotics or similar design/tech-based electives is a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Delivery & Innovation

Plan and deliver engaging Design lessons across the IB MYP and DP curriculum

Develop interdisciplinary units that integrate design thinking with real-world challenges

Encourage students to explore innovation, sustainability, and user-centred design
-
Use both traditional tools and modern digital design platforms effectively in teaching

Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students
2. Studio & Workshop Facilitation

Manage and maintain a safe, well-organised design studio/workshop environment

Support students in hands-on projects involving materials, prototyping, and testing

Oversee safe use of tools and equipment, including any digital fabrication tools

Promote creativity while maintaining a strong focus on design process and technique
3. Assessment & Feedback

Assess student learning through varied formative and summative methods

Provide regular, constructive feedback to support growth and reflection
-
Maintain accurate records of progress and contribute to reporting cycles

Prepare students for assessments in line with IB MYP and DP expectations
4. Enrichment & Co-Curricular Contributions

Lead or support design-related clubs, competitions, exhibitions, or STEAM events
-
Encourage student participation in innovation challenges or design fairs

Collaborate with other staff on cross-curricular enrichment projects
5. Professional Collaboration & Development

Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Design and wider Secondary faculty
-
Participate actively in curriculum development and school-wide initiatives

Engage in ongoing professional learning related to design education and IB standards

Contribute positively to the wider school culture and community
Candidate Requirements:

A relevant degree in Design or a closely related field (required)

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or international equivalent (required)

A minimum of 5 years post-qualification teaching experience

Experience in international schools and/or with the IB MYP/DP is highly desirable

Strong classroom management and communication skills

A commitment to collaborative planning and professional development

Experience or interest in Robotics or tech-focused electives is an advantage
