The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Elementary ELA Teacher to join the English Department. The successful candidate will teach English Language Arts to elementary students, helping them build strong foundations in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The role requires a teacher who can foster curiosity, creativity, and confidence while supporting students as they develop essential literacy skills.

The position involves delivering engaging and structured lessons that develop phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and early writing skills. The teacher will guide students through a wide range of age-appropriate literature while encouraging a love of reading and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Learning
    Teach high-quality Elementary ELA classes that support the development of literacy skills.
  • Deliver engaging lessons that build reading comprehension, phonics awareness, vocabulary, grammar, and writing development.
  • Encourage students to develop a love of reading through exposure to a wide range of age-appropriate literature.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learning needs and learning styles.
  • Incorporate technology and modern learning resources to enhance instruction and student engagement.

Curriculum Development

  • Contribute to the design and development of Elementary English curricula aligned with international standards.
  • Develop creative and engaging units that integrate reading, writing, storytelling, and communication skills.
  • Ensure curriculum progression builds strong literacy foundations that prepare students for Middle School learning.

Student Assessment and Support

  • Assess student progress through written work, reading assessments, projects, and classroom participation.
  • Provide constructive and supportive feedback to help students develop confidence and independence as readers and writers.
  • Identify students who require additional support or academic challenge and provide appropriate guidance.

Co-Curricular Activities

  • Support literacy-related activities such as reading clubs, storytelling, drama, or creative writing initiatives.
  • Contribute to school events that celebrate reading, literature, and student creativity.

Professional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Elementary colleagues to support curriculum planning and cross-curricular initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, professional learning activities, and whole-school initiatives.

Classroom Environment

  • Maintain a positive, organised, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Encourage curiosity, respectful communication, and active participation in learning.
  • Ensure learning materials and classroom resources are used effectively and responsibly.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • A degree in English, Education, Primary Education, or a related field.
  • A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, QTS, state certification, or national teaching licence (not TEFL/TESOL).
  • Experience teaching English Language Arts or literacy at Elementary or Primary level.
  • Strong knowledge of literacy development and early reading and writing instruction.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience teaching in an international school environment.
  • Familiarity with inquiry-based, student-centred, or concept-based teaching approaches.
  • Experience supporting multilingual learners in diverse classrooms.
