About the job Senior Tax Accountant
Senior Tax Accountant
Remote – Arkansas Candidates are preferred & will be prioritized in the search
A growing, boutique advisory firm is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to take ownership of its tax function in a highly flexible, client-focused environment. This is not a traditional public accounting role—there are no billable hour requirements, no rigid corporate structure, and no expectation of excessive busy-season workloads! The firm operates with a lean, collaborative team and emphasizes quality work, proactive planning, and strong client relationships over volume.
This role is fully remote with occasional in-person meetings in Central Arkansas a few times per year. The schedule is flexible, with an expectation of general availability during core business hours, allowing for true work/life balance—including unlimited PTO that is actively supported and utilized. Hours are typically 9-4, with a target of 30-35 hrs a week!
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 150–200 small businesses and complex individual tax returns (Schedule C, rentals, investments).
- Lead client interactions via phone and Zoom, explaining tax positions, strategies, and outcomes in a clear, consultative manner.
- Perform hands-on tax preparation and review, with final sign-off handled at the firm leadership level.
- Partner with clients on proactive tax planning, including quarterly advisory conversations to minimize liabilities and avoid year-end surprises.
- Apply strong knowledge of the Arkansas tax code to ensure compliance and provide tailored guidance.
- Contribute to a high-touch client experience, balancing technical expertise with practical, real-world advice.
What Makes This Role Different
- No billable hours or traditional public accounting pressure.
- Work is project-based with a focus on outcomes, not time tracking.
- Busy season hours have historically remained well below typical public accounting demands.
- Significant client interaction and advisory exposure—not just compliance work.
- Opportunity to help shape and grow the tax function, with a long-term path to Director of Tax and the ability to build a team.
Ideal Background
- CPA required.
- 3–5+ years of tax experience, preferably within a public accounting environment.
- Strong knowledge of Arkansas tax regulations.
- Experience with small business clients and more complex individual returns.
- Comfortable in a client-facing, advisory-driven role.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $80,000–$100,000 depending on experience.
- Performance-based bonuses, including incentives for business development.
- Health insurance (50% employer-paid); dental and vision available.
- Retirement plan with up to 3% match.
- Flexible schedule and unlimited PTO that can realistically be used!
This is an ideal opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys the work itself but wants to step away from the traditional public accounting model and into a more balanced, advisory-focused career path with real growth potential.
