About the job Controller
Arkansas Talent Group is hiring for a Controller (Construction) who is responsible for managing all financial and accounting operations for a very reputable mid-sized construction organization. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, effective cost control, and compliance with industry and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have significant construction accounting experience, with a CPA designation preferred but not required, and a background in public accounting (especially construction audits) is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all financial aspects of construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring accurate and timely completion of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules for management and ownership.
- Develop, monitor, and update project and company-wide budgets; track expenses and analyze variances to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Manage job costing processes, including preparation and oversight of job cost reports and work-in-progress schedules.
- Coordinate and review progress billings, contract schedules, and collections in accordance with contract terms.
- Oversee payment processes to vendors and subcontractors, ensuring proper collection of lien waivers.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, construction industry accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Support external audits, including coordination with public accounting firms for construction audits.
- Maintain professional relationships with vendors, subcontractors, financial institutions, and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in special projects and provide financial analysis to support company growth and strategic planning.
- Assist with tax planning, compliance, and reporting as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Extensive accounting experience in the construction industry.
- Strong construction accounting knowledge, including job costing and percentage-of-completion methods.
- CPA designation is highly desired but not required.
- Public accounting experience, especially in construction audits, preferred.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience, ideally managing a small accounting team.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation:
- Salary DOE; targeting 4-8+ years of experience and a range of 90-120k
