About the job Firmware Project Manager
Our client, a US-based creator of the entertainment system - the first-in-class immersive-reality innovative console, and the gaming platform, is looking for an experienced Firmware Project Manager to join the team.
Location: Ukraine, Europe
Type: Remote, full-time
Start date: ASAP
About the product:
A cube-shaped gaming console with 24 screens you twist, tilt, & shake that merges the physical and digital worlds. The entertainment system combines modular hardware, immersive software, and innovative game design to create an entirely new category of interactive entertainment. This innovative product's core appeal lies in its mission to merge the physical and digital worlds, transforming how people play, learn, and interact with technology.
About the Role:
We are looking for a FW Project Manager with a strong embedded background and hands-on experience in firmware development, hardware interface testing and new platform bring-up. You will coordinate the entire firmware development cycle from early hardware bring-up to system validation, stable releases and cross-team alignment.
This role requires someone who can dive into technical details, structure complex engineering work and drive predictable progress across firmware, hardware, QA, mobile and backend teams.
Responsibilities:
1. Execution of Firmware Development
- Break down product requirements into actionable FW tasks.
- Plan sprints, estimate work, track progress and manage dependencies.
- Coordinate development of low-level drivers, system modules, connectivity and device logic.
- Ensure that implementation aligns with the requirements.
- Maintain predictable delivery timelines and transparent status reporting.
2. Hardware Interface Testing & Integration
- Coordinate FW-HW integration: power states, protocols, timing, calibration, thresholds.
- Work with HW and QA teams to identify root causes of integration issues.
- Ensure stable system behavior across hardware revisions and prototypes.
3. New Platform Bring-up & Validation
- Lead bring-up activities for new boards and device revisions: bootloaders, clocks, power rails, drivers.
- Establish diagnostics, debug tools and logging for early-stage testing.
- Define validation scope and coordinate FW+HW compatibility testing.
- Work alongside QA and HW teams during EVT, DVT, PVT phases to ensure readiness for production.
4. Technical Coordination & Documentation
- Convert PM feature requirements into clear technical specifications for FW engineers.
- Maintain internal diagrams, interface documentation, flow descriptions and acceptance criteria.
- Facilitate communication between FW, HW, QA, backend and product teams.
Highlight risks, blockers and technical dependencies early.
5. Quality Assurance & Release Management
- Define technical quality gates for firmware releases.
- Manage builds, release notes and regression verification with QA.
- Track stability metrics, performance data and device diagnostics.
- Drive post-release issue resolution and continuous improvement cycles.
Requirements:
- 5+ years in embedded systems: FW engineering management, QA leadership or technical project management.
- Familiarity with EVT/DVT/PVT processes and manufacturing constraints.
- Strong understanding of hardware–firmware interaction and low-level debugging.
- Experience with bring-up of new hardware platforms and embedded validation.
- Familiarity with constraints of embedded systems (memory, power, timing).
- Ability to translate product-level requirements into clear technical tasks.
- Excellent organizational skills and execution discipline.
- Strong communication skills across HW, FW, QA and product teams.
Soft Skills:
- Precise, structured thinking.
- Ability to foresee technical risks and manage complexity.
- Calm, clear technical communication.
- Confidence in decision-making during uncertainty.
- Consistent, methodical workflow.
Nice to have:
- Hands-on firmware development experience (C/C++) or scripting (Python/Bash).
- Experience with consumer electronics, IoT, robotics or similar fields.
- Experience building diagnostic or testing frameworks.
- Startup background with rapid development cycles.
