Our client is an international mission-driven organization working at the intersection of clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, transport systems, and public policy. As the organization expands its work in India, it is seeking a Research Fellow to contribute to research, policy analysis, and knowledge generation that supports large-scale decarbonisation and sustainable infrastructure initiatives.

The India programme focuses on addressing complex policy, regulatory, and market challenges through evidence-based research, stakeholder engagement, and strategic partnerships with research institutions, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.

The Role

The Research Fellow will play a key role in shaping the programme's research and knowledge agenda in India. This position is suited to someone who is intellectually curious, analytically rigorous, and comfortable working at the intersection of energy, infrastructure, economics, and public policy.

The role will involve developing research outputs, synthesizing complex technical and policy information, monitoring sector developments, and supporting engagement with research partners and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or contribute significantly to research studies, policy papers, briefing notes, and analytical outputs related to sustainable infrastructure, energy transition, and transport systems.
  • Monitor and analyse relevant regulatory, market, policy, and institutional developments within the energy and infrastructure sectors.
  • Maintain and strengthen the programme's evidence base by tracking emerging trends, reforms, and sector developments.
  • Support the development of research proposals, concept notes, and knowledge products for external stakeholders and funding partners.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, pilot assessments, and strategic research initiatives.
  • Draft content for programme reports, stakeholder updates, publications, presentations, and external communications.
  • Prepare background research, briefing materials, and meeting notes to support stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with external research institutions, subject matter experts, and sector stakeholders as required.

Ideal Candidate

  • 2–4 years of experience in energy policy, infrastructure research, public policy, sustainable development, economics, or a related field.
  • Graduate-level education in a relevant discipline such as public policy, economics, engineering, environmental studies, energy studies, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research and produce clear, well-structured written analysis for policy, academic, or practitioner audiences.
  • Familiarity with the Indian energy, infrastructure, sustainability, or transport ecosystem is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
  • Excellent written English and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Comfortable working independently in a dynamic and evolving environment with significant ownership and autonomy.

Engagement Details

  • Part-time engagement (approximately 2.5–3 days per week) or deliverable-based arrangement.
  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
