Job Title: Japanese Litigation Lawyer

Location: Japan office, Tokyo. 

Reporting To: Litigation Partner in Japan. 

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic litigation Lawyer to join our team, acting as a crucial liaison between our overseas offices and the client headquarters in Japan. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in litigation, dispute resolution, and investigations, with the ability to communicate complex legal matters clearly and effectively in both Japanese and English. This role is time-sensitive and offers a competitive salary for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the litigation teams in London and the US and the client in Japan.
  • Provide expert legal advice and prepare clients for hearings, depositions, and other litigation-related processes.
  • Conduct thorough pre-litigation research and case-building, including analysing legal issues, gathering evidence, and developing legal strategies.
  • Manage and oversee ongoing litigation and disputes, ensuring all processes are conducted efficiently and in compliance with relevant laws.
  • Collaborate closely with the German team to coordinate cross-border litigation efforts and ensure seamless communication.
  • Assist in pending investigations, providing legal support and guidance throughout the process.
  • Draft and review legal documents, correspondence, and reports in both Japanese and English.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Japanese and international laws relevant to the company's litigation and dispute resolution activities.
  • Communicate effectively with EU counterparts, demonstrating flexibility in working hours to accommodate different time zones.

  • Strong expertise in litigation, dispute resolution, and investigations.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to build strong cases.
  • Superior communication skills in Japanese (native or near-native proficiency) and English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures and time zones.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience practicing law in Japan or a Commonwealth jurisdiction.
  • Qualified to practice law in Japan.
  • Experience in international litigation is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of successful case management and litigation outcomes.
