Job Summary: 

Ascent Employment is seeking a skilled and reliable Meat Processor with a specialty in beef to join our team in Prince George, BC. As a Meat Processor, you will be responsible for processing and packaging a variety of meats, ensuring that all products meet our high standards of quality and safety. This role requires a thorough understanding of meat processing techniques, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meat Processing: Safely and efficiently cut, trim, debone, and grind various types of meat (including beef, pork, and poultry) according to customer specifications and company standards
  • Packaging: Package processed meats for retail and wholesale distribution, ensuring proper labeling, weight, and presentation
  • Quality Control: Inspect meat products for quality, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and company guidelines
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain meat processing equipment, including saws, grinders, and slicers, while ensuring all machinery is properly cleaned and sanitized
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe work environment
  • Inventory Management: Assist in tracking inventory levels of meat products, reporting any discrepancies or shortages to the supervisor
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of processed meat, including weights, types, and grades, in accordance with company and regulatory standards
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure efficient production and meet daily processing goals

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in meat processing or a related field is preferred
  • Knowledge of meat cuts and processing techniques
  • Ability to work in a cold environment for extended periods
  • Physical ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and perform repetitive tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position with a typical workweek of 40 hours
  • Work is performed in an abattoir
  • Potential for overtime during peak seasons
  • Early morning and weekend shifts may be required
