Overview of the Role

Reporting to the IT Service Manager, an Automation will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automation solutions to streamline various IT processes. Your primary focus will be on automating Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tasks, Sophos Central management, scripting patch pushes, and other tasks to enhance efficiency and reduce manual labour. Additionally, you will be in charge of maintaining accurate documentation for all clients in our IT Glue platform. This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to educate staff on automation policies. This includes PowerShell, RMM Scripting via Datto RMM, automation workflows and SNMP monitoring templates.

Main Responsibilities

The main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implement and maintain a highly available and reliable provisioning and automation environment based on API and Powershell as well as Datto RMM technology
  • Own the process for releasing builds into Dev, Test, Stage and Production
  • Own the process for releasing upgrades/ updates to customers, including patches, maintenance releases, etc
  • Own the RMM solution
  • Own the documentation platform, ensuring that all client documentation is up-to-date, organized, and accessible for the team
  • Automated Reporting: Develop automated reporting tools to provide real-time insights into system performance, client metrics, and service level agreement (SLA) compliance.
  • SNMP Monitoring: Utilize SNMP protocols to design and implement automated monitoring solutions for network managed devices. Collect and analyze SNMP data to proactively identify performance issues, network bottlenecks, and potential security risks
  • Help implement policies around hardware and OS level upgrades
  • Enhance and support our infrastructure and Cloud software monitoring solutions
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with R&D, Customer Success, Support and Operations teams
  • Automating processes to assist installing, configuring, testing and maintaining operating systems, application software and system management tools
  • Resolve hardware, operational, infrastructure, performance, and application incidents
  • Provide preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and quickly resolve problems to ensure infrastructure and application stability
  • Develop and enhance service documentation
  • Design and configure templates, triggers, and alerts
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks, will be an advantage
  • Staff Education: Educate staff on automation policies, procedures, and tools to promote a culture of automation and increase productivity
  • Maintain open communication with customers and coworkers, updating them on the status of incidents and advising them of any changes or outages
  • Replacement of Manual Labor: Identify opportunities to automate manual tasks and processes across the MSP environment, leading to improved efficiency and reduced human errors.






Core Competencies

  • 5 years of hands-on experience in IT
  • Experience in Managed Services is an advantage
  • Experience with supporting SQL/ My SQL Databases is preferred
  • Experience with C# is an advantage
  • Solid understanding of monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of SNMP
  • Experience in TR-069 is an advantage
  • Experience with server-side scripting automation
  • Experience with Datto RMM or similar RMM solution
  • Windows Administration experience (Active Directory, IIS, Disk management, Windows Patching, Performance)
  • Scripting in either PowerShell, bash and python environments
  • Experience with backup scripting and technologies
  • Experience with security solutions, particularly Sophos is an advantage
  • Networking with firewalls and in the cloud
  • Superb written and verbal English skills
