Role Overview: As a Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of an organization's IT systems and infrastructure. You will ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of servers, networks, operating systems, and related components to meet business needs and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. System Installation and Configuration:

    • Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software, including operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux).
    • Set up and configure network infrastructure components, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs, to ensure connectivity and security.
    • Deploy and configure virtualization technologies, such as VMware or Hyper-V, to optimize resource utilization and server consolidation.
  2. User Account Management and Access Control:

    • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls on servers, applications, and network resources.
    • Ensure compliance with security policies and standards by enforcing access controls, password policies, and least privilege principles.
    • Monitor user activity and audit logs to detect and prevent unauthorized access and security breaches.
  3. System Monitoring and Maintenance:

    • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity to identify and resolve issues proactively.
    • Perform regular system maintenance tasks, such as updates, patches, and firmware upgrades, to ensure security and stability.
    • Conduct system backups, disaster recovery planning, and testing to protect data and ensure business continuity.
  4. Incident Management and Troubleshooting:

    • Respond to user-reported incidents and service requests, diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, and provide timely resolution.
    • Escalate complex or unresolved issues to higher-level support teams or vendors for further investigation and resolution.
    • Document incident details, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions accurately and comprehensively in the IT service management (ITSM) system.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate with other IT teams and stakeholders to plan and implement infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and expansions.
    • Communicate effectively with end-users, technical teams, and management to provide updates, gather requirements, and solicit feedback.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members, interns, or contractors as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in a systems administration role, with a strong understanding of IT systems and infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in managing and maintaining server hardware and software, operating systems, and network infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies, cloud computing platforms, and containerization technologies.
  • Experience with system monitoring and management tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds, VMware vSphere).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with attention to detail and a methodical approach to issue resolution.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with users at all levels.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Server+, Cisco Certified Network Associate) are a plus.
