About the role
The role is responsible for maintaining and improving inspection process and controls to achieve and continuously improve quality of constructed vessels.
Key objectives & responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conduct pre-survey/validation checks prior 3rd party Inspection/Survey.
- Monitor and drive inspection and test requirements completion and conformance based on specifications, Austal standard, Class/Client requirement and published ITP.
- Participate/take lead part during 3rd party surveys/inspections (Class/Client/Flag).
- Conduct or facilitate/coordinate investigations on Quality issues.
- Perform reviews, walkthroughs, and inspection to ensure conformance with applicable/specified requirements and standards.
- Report and escalate issues to Responsible Department and relevant parties.
- Validate rectification performed by Production in accordance with applicable standards, specification, drawing references and requirements and Class/Client requirements.
- Ensure that all rectification/ issues closure evidence is properly recorded and documented.
- Contribute to continuous improvement through lessons learned and identification of opportunities for improvement.
- Assist in establishing process and improvement programs for inspection, and other quality related tasks.
Required Skills / Experience / Attributes:
Essential
- Graduate of Engineering course, preferably Mechanical Engineer or Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in quality control, inspection, auditing, and testing in a shipbuilding or similar industries
- Strong working knowledge on technical drawing (structural, piping, schematic) interpretations
- Familiar with various welding processes, Welding Procedure Qualification Test and Welder Qualification Test
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of organization and external customers
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Effective communication skills written and spoken
- Experience working in Shipbuilding/Ship Sustainment/manufacturing organization
