About the role
This role is responsible for conducting routine inspections, work permit approval, audits, and observations to ensure that all work activities within the shipyard operations are carried out in accordance with established Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures, policies, and legal requirements.
The role involves identifying unsafe conditions, practices, and potential hazards while working closely with supervisors, contractors, and workers to recommend practical corrective actions and improvements.
Required Skills / Experience / Attributes:
Essential
- Must have completed the 40-hour Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) training prescribed by DOLE through an accredited training provider.
- 12 years of experience in a safety-related role, ideally in shipbuilding, ship repair, or other industrial settings.
- Ability to identify basic hazards and assist in implementing workplace safety protocols.
- Demonstrates a calm and professional demeanor, especially when supporting incident response.
- Basic knowledge of emergency response procedures and can coordinate with emergency responders (e.g., first-aiders, fire brigade).
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to promote safety awareness among workers and contractors.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
- Ability to conduct toolbox talks or basic safety orientations.
Desirable
- At least a certified First Aider must have completed a First Aid Training Course conducted by a DOLE-accredited training provider.
- Knowledgeable in conducting HIRAC able to perform Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control (HIRAC) as part of proactive safety management and incident prevention.
