Purpose of the Job:

The Naval Architect Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and management of the structural design team in delivering the relevant structural design and drawing scope and requisitions for each shipbuilding project.

The role is to ensure that the structural design drawings/documents are delivered on schedule, fit for purpose to meet the requirements of specification, Flag (typically IMO High Speed Craft Code) and the Classification society.

This role requires good coordination and communication (written and verbal) with the design team, and with the AP Fabrication Manager, and Austal Australasia Naval Architect & Structural Design Leads.

Required Skills / Experience / Attributes:

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (Licensed).
  • 10+ Years as Naval Architect marine design experience in Aluminium/Steel shipbuilding projects.
  • Strong leadership and management skills to lead the Structural design team.
  • Strong Structural design skills to meet vessel specification & rules requirements.
  • Good knowledge of classification society/Flag rule requirement.
  • Good communication skills to coordinate with design, production and project teams in written and spoken English.
  • Strong analytical skills to undertaken problem solving.
  • Familiarity with 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D CAD software, Navisworks and other Structural software.
  • Tertiary qualification in a technical field with substantial experience in the marine industry.
  • Competent with MS Office, Word & Excel
  • Role is located in Balamban, Cebu, the shipbuilding capital of the Philippines.

Desirable:

  • Ship design experience
  • Aluminium or Steel shipbuilding experience
  • Licensed Philippine Naval Architect and Marine Engineer, Familiarity with 3D SHIP CAD software (SHIPCON and Plant 3D)
  • Familiar with Rhino, Maxsurf, Steel Beam & Multi Frame Software
