About the job Structural Engineer
Purpose of the Role:
The Structural Engineer is responsible for the delivery of structural calculations, drawings, and reports for assigned shipbuilding projects. The role ensures all structural outputs meet class, flag, and client requirements, and are completed within schedule and budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform structural calculations using spreadsheets, hand methods, or FEA software (e.g. STRAND7).
- Prepare drawings, lift plans, reports, and requisitions aligned with Austal standards and project specifications.
- Collaborate with production, project, and design teams to ensure deliverables are integrated and accurate.
- Ensure outputs are thoroughly planned, internally checked, and compliant with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Lead or support structural design tasks depending on competency level.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
- 5+ years of marine structural design experience (shipbuilding preferred).
- Proficient in steel/aluminium structural design and software such as AutoCAD, STRAND7, Shipcon.
- Strong understanding of classification society and flag state rules (e.g. DNV, BV, IMO HSC Code)

Licensed Naval Architect or Structural Engineer (preferred).
