About the job Quality Inspector
PURPOSE
The Quality Inspector is responsible for the execution of the required verification, inspection, or test (as per ITP) to ensure conformance to specified Quality requirement and standards. His/her tasks involve examining products and materials on various construction stages/checkpoints/ holdpoints for defects or deviation from issued drawings, specifications and quality standards.
He/She is also responsible for maintaining and improving inspection process and controls to achieve and continuously improve quality of constructed vessels.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent, with 2-3 years experience in quality control, inspection, and testing in shipbuilding, marine construction or heavy industries; or
- Technical Diploma/ Associate Degree, with 5+ years experience in quality control, inspection, and testing in shipbuilding construction or similar industries
Technical Skills and Physical Requirements:
- Strong working knowledge (reading and interpreting) ship construction or technical drawings and blueprints
- Knowledge of marine standards and classification societies
- Familiar with the following.
- Welding processes, hull construction, piping, structural assemblies
- Quality control procedures, inspection process and checklists
- Use of inspection tools such as welding gauges, micrometers, calipers
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge in documentation and report writing
- Ability to work in shipyard environments (confined spaces, heights, marine weather). Physically fit to perform inspections
- Willing to work extra hours, including overtime and weekends, when required to meet project deadlines
Soft Skills:
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of organization and external customers
- Critical thinking and strong attention to details
Desirable
- Familiarity and knowledge with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL and Classification rules
- ISO 9001 Internal Auditor experience
- Good background on shipbuilding processes and operations, preferably Aluminium shipbuilding
- Strong background in machineries, engineering systems, equipment commissioning and testing, and marine propulsion system
- Knowledgeable on welding codes and standards (ASME, AWS, ISO etc).
- Welding Inspection Trainings and Qualifications (AWS, CSWIP Welding Inspector)
- NDT background and/or certifications (VT, UT, RT, PT)
- Knowledge in Problem solving and Root cause analysis tools
- Knowledge and/or qualification in Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD)
