Job Description
Position Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for civil, industrial, and mechanical construction projects. This role analyzes plans, specifications, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing to develop competitive and reliable bids while ensuring compliance with project requirements and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Review project plans, drawings, and specifications to determine scope of work
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil, industrial, and mechanical projects
- Perform quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment
- Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Analyze historical data to improve estimating accuracy
- Identify project risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value-engineering options
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel
- Assist with bid preparation, bid reviews, and proposal submissions
- Maintain organized estimating records and databases
- Support change order pricing and project cost tracking as needed
Required Qualifications
- Experience in civil, industrial, and/or mechanical construction estimating
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- Experience with large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with scheduling and project management principles
- Knowledge of local labor rates, codes, and regulations
Work Environment
- Combination of office-based estimating and occasional site visits
- Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
