Job Description 

VACANCY: Aircraft Mechanic 

REPORTING: Chief Engineer

LOCATION: Durban

Aero Support Force Durban (Pty) Ltd has a position available for a responsible, knowledgeable, and attentive individual. This role will be based in Durban.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintenance of Aircraft:

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to ensure aircraft are maintained in a serviceable and airworthy condition.
  • Execute maintenance tasks in accordance with OEM documentation, Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMM), and approved procedures.
  • Conduct fault finding, defect diagnostics, and rectification of aircraft systems and components.
  • Carry out removal and installation of aircraft components, including troubleshooting and rectification of defects.
  • Perform inspections, lubrication, servicing, and other routine maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all work is completed within defined turnaround times while maintaining quality standards.

Operational Support:

  • Work in collaboration with Licensed Aircraft Engineers and maintenance teams.
  • Identify and request required spares, tools, and equipment to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Support maintenance planning and contribute to efficient workflow within the hangar.
  • Provide technical input and support during maintenance activities and troubleshooting.

Tools, Equipment & Work Environment:

  • Maintain strict tool control in line with aviation standards.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and calibration of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
  • Monitor and manage consumables, materials, and component shelf-life where applicable.

Compliance & Documentation:

  • Ensure all maintenance is performed in compliance with SACAA regulations and company procedures.
  • Accurately complete job cards, maintenance records, and documentation.
  • Interpret and apply Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMM) and other technical data.
  • Report defects, discrepancies, and non-conformances in accordance with company processes.
  • Ensure full traceability and compliance of all maintenance activities.

QSE (Quality, Safety, Environment)

  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Wear appropriate PPE and always maintain safe working practices.
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents, and risks proactively.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in safety and quality.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be in possession of own basic aircraft maintenance tools, maintained in good working condition and compliant with tool control requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in aircraft maintenance.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
  • Proven problem-solving ability with experience in fault finding and defect rectification.
  • Good analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong compliance mindset with a clear understanding of regulatory and quality requirements.
  • Good administrative skills, including accurate record-keeping and documentation.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Calm under pressure while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent English communication (verbal and written); other languages a plus.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when operational requirements demand.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The following is essential for this position:

  • Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic Trade Certificate.
  • Experience working on Robinson Aircrafts.
  • Successful completion of SACAA General Examinations in the following subjects:
    • Helicopter General
    • Piston Engine General
    • SACAA Regulations
    • Human Factors
