About the Role
Avyanna Technologies is seeking a skilled Database Developer to support a large-scale System Modernization initiative for the NYC Department of Education. This is a proposal-based position and will begin only upon contract award.

As a Database Developer, youll be responsible for building and optimizing SQL data systems to support operational reporting, data integration, and analytical needs. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the accuracy, performance, and reliability of database operations across critical DOE applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions for high-performance data processing.

• Maintain data warehouse integrity, including schema management and database normalization.

• Support ETL processes and data pipelines to ensure timely data availability for downstream applications.

• Provide support for business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, SSRS) and assist in delivering ad-hoc and operational reports.

• Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, performance bottlenecks, and integration errors.

• Ensure database solutions comply with best practices for data governance, security, and auditability.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in SQL development and data engineering.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, SSRS, and Power BI.

• Solid understanding of ETL workflows, database optimization techniques, and data modeling.

• Experience working in Agile development environments with cross-functional teams.

• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with education systems, public-sector data, or regulatory compliance environments.

• Familiarity with Azure SQL, Data Factory, or other cloud-based data tools is a plus.
