The Assistant Manager Legal at Axiata Digital Labs plays a pivotal role in providing strategic legal advice and managing day-to-day legal operations. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders across departments to ensure business objectives are met while minimizing legal risks. The incumbent independently handles contract negotiation, legal documentation, compliance, and provides expert legal guidance to all levels of the organization.

NEED TO DO:

Legal Advisory & Risk Management

  1. Serve as the primary legal advisor to business, technical, and product teams.
  2. Provide pragmatic and actionable legal advice across all business functions.
  3. Apply effective risk management techniques while offering proactive advice to management.
  4. Conduct legal research and offer opinions on legal interpretations and policy implementations.
  5. Provide support for intellectual property management, including trademarks and copyrights.

Contract Management

  1. Independently draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, NDAs, MoUs, and service agreements in compliance with internal policies and legal standards.
  2. Lead the contract lifecycle from initiation to execution and archival.
  3. Draft and maintain contract templates in line with company policy and local regulations.
  4. Respond to RFPs/RFQs, vendor qualification forms, and contractual inquiries.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  1. Liaise with internal stakeholders to understand and support business goals.
  2. Act as the point of contact for contract-related matters in project teams.
  3. Interface with external counsel and represent the company in legal consultations when required.

Compliance & Documentation

  1. Ensure organizational compliance with applicable legal frameworks and internal governance.
  2. Maintain accurate legal documentation and records.
  3. Support the legal aspects of regulatory filings and internal audits.

Education and Experience

  • Law degree from an accredited university.
  • Admitted to practice law in Sri Lanka (member in good standing of the Sri Lanka Bar Association).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a legal capacity with exposure to contract management and corporate advisory.

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of commercial law, contract law, and corporate governance.
  • Familiarity with data privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance requirements.
