Job Description:
- To maintain a detailed knowledge of national and local standards (e.g. National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines) and the current evidence base in relation to nutrition and your area(s) of practice.
- You may be expected to provide cover cross site as clinical demand.
- The post holder will largely carry a gastro and general medical caseload, alongside some complex enteral feed patients. There will also be an expectation to support with the management and cover of HDU/ITU and TPN patients with training and support available as needed.
- To assess, monitor, and review patients nutritional care plans as appropriate to the patient group.
- To work in a coordinated multidisciplinary manner, communicating effectively with other team members and the wider clinical network involved with these patient groups to promote timely interventions.
- To work with the multidisciplinary team to implement protocols and treatment pathways for this group of patients.
- To interpret received information concerning medical and social history to ensure advice is given in a person centered and culturally specific way.
- To provide highly complex nutrition counselling and use of reassurance and motivational skills to overcome barriers to change particularly where there is non-compliance.
- To provide expert nutritional advice and education to patients, carers and relatives.
- To support the use of a nutrition screening tool for inpatients to ensure patients are appropriately referred to the dietitian.
- To undertake training to be deemed competent in the use of all equipment related to nutritional assessment and enteral feeding e.g. anthropometrics and feeding pumps.
