Job Description:

  • Provide medical leadership across the Learning Disability service. This includes supervising and providing advice to other members of the multidisciplinary team regarding psychiatric, medication and other relevant clinical issues.
  • Attendance to and providing leadership during MDT meetings.
  • Attendance and participation in team governance and team development meetings.
  • Contribution to the CPA process (and its successor) for patient management, including regular liaison with care coordinators.
  • Provision of medical/psychiatric assessments to inform care planning and risk assessment, by regular clinic sessions and flexible use of clinical time.
  • Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological interventions
  • Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Health Act. There is a requirement for RC responsibility due to the expectation in this patient cohort that some patients may be discharged into the community e.g., Community Treatment Orders (CTO) Conditional Discharge. The post holder would be expected to be approved as a Responsible Clinician and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures. In the event of the post holder being pending approval to functions as a RC, existing consultants and S12 approved specialty doctors within the service would provide cover for MHA related work for that interim period.
  • Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Capacity Act
  • Completion of administrative tasks related to clinical responsibilities
