Position Summary

The Outside Yard Forklift Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently operating forklifts and related equipment to load, unload, move, and stage materials in the outside yard. This role ensures proper handling of inventory, supports yard organization, and contributes to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate forklifts, clamp trucks, and other material handling equipment in an outdoor environment.
  • Load and unload trucks, trailers, and railcars with raw materials, finished goods, or equipment.
  • Transport and stack materials in designated yard areas while maintaining load stability.
  • Verify and inspect incoming/outgoing shipments for accuracy and damage.
  • Maintain accurate records of material movement, inventory counts, and staging.
  • Ensure proper storage of materials to maximize space and accessibility.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report any safety or maintenance issues.
  • Follow company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and yard traffic flow guidelines.
  • Assist with general yard upkeep, including cleaning, organizing, and ensuring a hazard-free worksite.
  • Support coworkers and supervisors with additional tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of 12 years of forklift operation experience in an outdoor yard, warehouse, or construction environment.
  • Valid forklift operator certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
  • Strong attention to safety and situational awareness.
  • Basic math and communication skills to record, track, and verify shipments.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
