Job Purpose
To perform planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance on crushing & other fixed plant installations as may be required as well as associated mechanical equipment to ensure optimal plant & equipment availability, reliability, and safety in accordance with company and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on crushers (jaw, cone, impact), screens, feeders, conveyors and related equipment.
- Strip, inspect, repair and assemble crusher components including bearings, shafts, liners, seals and drive systems.
- Carry out preventative maintenance inspections as per maintenance schedules.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and implement corrective actions.
- Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment and plant modifications.
Safety, Health & Environment
- Comply with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), OSH ACT & company safety standards and risk assessments.
- Conduct pre-task risk assessments and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Ensure work areas are kept clean and safe.
- Report hazards, near misses and incidents.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete maintenance reports and job cards accurately.
- Record parts used, time spent and work performed.
- Provide feedback on recurring faults and equipment performance.
Teamwork & Support
- Work closely with electricians, operators and supervisors to minimize downtime.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to apprentices and assistants.
- Participate in shutdowns and breakdown response teams.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- Trade Test Certificate: Fitter / Fitter & Turner / Millwright
- Valid medical certificate of fitness (for mining/industrial environment)
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in crushing plant maintenance
- Proven experience working on:
- Jaw crushers
- Cone crushers
- Screens and feeders
- Conveyors and gearboxes
- Experience in mining or quarrying environment preferred
- Hydraulics Systems
- Electrical systems
Skills & Competencies
- Strong mechanical fault-finding ability
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Knowledge of bearings, lubrication systems and hydraulics
- Welding and basic fabrication skills (advantageous)
- Good housekeeping and attention to detail
- Physically fit and able to work in dusty, noisy environments
- Ability to work shifts and overtime when required
