Most CTO roles at this level pull you so far into spreadsheets and slide decks that you forget how to actually build things. This isn't one of those roles. We are looking for a technical leader in Johannesburg who wants to stay "hands on the keyboard" while directing the future of AI-driven video storytelling.

• Build and Scale: You will own the technology roadmap and drive innovation in AI-driven video.
• True Technical Ownership: You will guide the adoption of MLOps and LLMOps, moving AI models into high-stakes production environments.
• Direct Influence: You will work directly with the CEO to guide growth and engage with customers to solve real-world integration challenges.
• Stay Sharp: You'll still be coding in PHP/Laravel, Python, and modern JavaScript frameworks, helping the team solve the hard problems.

Your Day-to-Day

You'll be leading a multidisciplinary team of Senior PHP Developers and AI Engineers. One hour you might be explaining technical integration pathways to a global brand, and the next you'll be prototyping a new feature using generative AI or exploring a more efficient video rendering pipeline.

What You Bring

• Experience: You've been a CTO or VP of Engineering before, ideally in a startup where things move fast.
• Tech Stack: You are comfortable with PHP/Laravel, Vue.js/React, and managing cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP.
• AI Knowledge: You have a track record with AI/ML pipelines, LLMs, and generative applications.
• Communication: You can translate complex technical concepts for people who aren't engineers.

This is an on-site, full-time role in Johannesburg. You'll be part of a team that prioritises agility and data-driven success, particularly within the financial services and fintech sectors.
