HR Officer (9-Month Contract)

On behalf of our client, a leading healthcare and retail business in South Africa, we are seeking an experienced HR Officer for a 9-month contract.

This is a hands-on, operational role based in Midrand, Johannesburg, which requires regular travel to retail sites countrywide. You will be responsible for providing a full generalist HR service to your assigned business units. The successful candidate will be a key contact for all HR-related matters, focusing on effective HR service delivery, managing employee relations, and actively engaging with both management and employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the HR Manager in the delivery of HR services, policies, and procedures.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all employee relations (ER) matters, including participating in disciplinary and grievance procedures as needed.
  • Provide support and guidance to line managers and employees on HR-related matters and labour legislation.
  • Assist with the implementation of HR initiatives and employee engagement programs.
  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding process for new employees.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and data.
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective HR service delivery.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an HR Officer.
  • Strong understanding and proven experience in Employee Relations, HR Service Delivery, and HR Policies and Procedures.
  • Solid knowledge of South African labor laws and regulations.
  • Experience in a retail, FMCG, or other multi-site environment is highly beneficial.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A valid driver's license and the willingness to travel extensively to sites are essential for this role.
  • An HR certification or training is a plus.
