About the job Sommelier
Position level: Junior Manager
Reports to: Restaurant General Manager
Our client is a newly open five-star resort with multiple F&B outlets, recognized globally as a hospitality leader for its legendary service, world-class spa retreats and distinct dining concept.
As a Sommelier, you will be responsible for overseeing wine cellar organizations, creating wine lists, conducting the wine service, recommending food and wine pairings, and collaborating with the F&B team to ensure wines are served correctly.
Requirements
- Diplomas as Sommeliers and have kept up their knowledge by attending regularly seminars, conferences, courses and other wine industry related events.
- 3+ years of demonstrated sommelier experience.
- Have worked with wine lists that cover all the regions: USA, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Chile, New Zealand and Australia.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.
- Microsoft Office application literacy, cross-cultural work environments exposure.
- Knowledge and experience in the purchasing and productions process and is equally versed in global distribution.
- Critical problem analysis/resolution skills.
- Excellent knowledge and worked with wine lists that are truly international in scope and content.
- Very good command over written and spoken English.
- A second spoken language would be preferred.
- Working experience in a remote location is a plus!
Responsibilities
- Manage a station in the dining room by providing great wine service and taking advantage of all opportunities to increase beverage sales.
- Conduct Wine Seminars for our guests.
- Conduct Wine Tastings/Dinners for our guests.
- Conduct Wine Training Sessions for Restaurant and Beverage Hosts.
- Decant properly older vintages, with the showmanship and standards required by traditional wine service.
- Pair wines with food, recommending those that will complement the different styles of cuisine and the different methods of food preparation.
- Organize their mis-en-place before every meal in order to ensure proper service.
- Organize and supervise wine sales and service in the outlets.
- Strives to meet the target cost of sales for the operation as determined by the resort budgets.
- Responsible for the proper accounting and recording of all wine sales.
- Stays current with trends in the industry and creates creative wine
promotions. - Responsible for the training and education of all those involved in sales and service of wine products. This includes arranging outside consultants and suppliers who provide wine training.
- Requisitioning, receiving, storing and inventorying product.
- Establishes proper communication with Stores and Financial Controller to
assure that all the items on the Wine List and in stores are available.

- Working hours: 45 hours per week including a break, 2 days off per week.
- 30 days paid including off days with paid vacation after a completion of 12 months. (Accumulated leave balance can only be used after 6 months of service)
- Annual Leave Ticket: Every 1 year a return economy leave ticket to the home country nearest International Airport Oman is provided.
