Role Overview

An established and innovative organisation within the packaging sector is seeking a strategic and commercially astute Group Buyer to join the Senior Management Team in a newly created role.

This position will play a pivotal role in procurement and supplier management, with a strong focus on negotiation, supplier relations, and cost control within an FMCG-led supply chain environment.

The successful candidate will directly influence supply chain efficiency, cost optimisation, and quality assurance, ensuring the consistent delivery of superior products to customers.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Strategy

  • Develop, lead, and execute group purchasing strategies aligned to business objectives.

  • Oversee bulk procurement activities to leverage economies of scale.

  • Track and report KPIs to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and mitigate supply chain risks.

  • Forecast pricing trends and monitor market conditions to identify shifts in supplier dynamics.

  • Conduct cost analysis, scenario planning, and benchmarking exercises.

  • Monitor and forecast future demand levels to ensure continuity of supply.

Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain strong, strategic supplier relationships.

  • Source, evaluate, and partner with reliable vendors.

  • Craft and execute negotiation strategies, securing commercially advantageous agreements.

  • Manage supplier performance to ensure service, pricing, and quality standards are achieved.

Cost & Operational Management

  • Analyse market trends and pricing to secure best-value agreements.

  • Manage purchase orders and ensure timely, accurate delivery.

  • Resolve supplier issues efficiently and professionally.

  • Coordinate with inventory teams to align purchasing with stock requirements.

  • Ensure all procured goods meet required quality standards.

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years relevant procurement experience, ideally within FMCG or a related manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrable management and leadership experience.

  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering cost savings.

  • In-depth understanding of supply chain management principles.

  • Experience in supplier negotiations and contract management.
