Overview:
An established and rapidly growing heavy equipment manufacturer is seeking a Senior Strategy Manager - Dealer Development to lead the strategic evolution of its North American dealer network. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep experience in distribution strategy, market expansion, and dealer optimization, especially within capital equipment, heavy machinery, or similar industries.
The person in this role will serve as a key architect of the long-term dealer footprint strategy, developing new markets, strengthening existing partnerships, and exploring innovative approaches to distribution. This is a high-impact position with visibility across the organization and the opportunity to shape a foundational pillar of business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Dealer Network Strategy & Expansion
- Refine and maintain a clear, forward-looking distribution strategy to support North American growth.
- Analyze market potential and identify new opportunities for dealer expansion in strategic territories.
- Lead end-to-end dealer prospecting: from identifying candidates to supporting business plan development and onboarding.
Dealer Optimization & Performance Management
- Drive dealer development plans focused on revenue growth, operational maturity, and market penetration.
- Support dealer succession planning and provide guidance on ownership transitions to ensure long-term viability.
- Develop exit strategies in underperforming markets when necessary, while balancing business continuity.
Strategic Growth & Alternative Distribution Models
- Evaluate M&A opportunities within the dealer network; conduct due diligence, financial modeling, and ROI assessments.
- Build and maintain relationships with private equity partners and other external investment groups.
- Explore emerging or non-traditional distribution channels to complement the existing dealer base.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Sales leadership to define territory strategies, resource allocations, and long-term coverage plans.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to District Managers and regional teams on dealer transitions, growth targets, and partnership models.
- Develop and sustain high-trust relationships with dealers, positioning the company as a long-term partner in growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Marketing, or related field (MBA preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in dealer development, distribution strategy, corporate strategy, or M&A within a relevant industry.
- Strong business acumen and analytical skills; must be proficient in financial modeling and market planning (ROI, pro forma analysis, etc.).
- Proven ability to influence across internal teams and external partnerships.
- Willingness to travel frequently across the U.S. and Canada.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools.
