Overview
A well-established, family-style heavy-duty truck service shop with over 40 years in the Wisconsin and Illinois transportation industry is seeking an experienced Diesel Technician. This is a small, highly skilled team environment where technicians work independently, are trusted with complex repairs, and are supported through ongoing OEM-level training.
We are looking for a seasoned technician with strong diagnostic ability and hands-on experience in full-scope diesel truck repair.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks (all-makes)
- Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, differentials, driveline, steering, suspension, and air/hydraulic brake systems
- Complete major engine repairs, including injectors, pistons, liners, heads, camshafts, bearings, and related components
- Use diagnostic tools/software to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems
- Inspect vehicles and determine required safety or additional repairs
- Perform road tests to verify repair quality and performance
- Accurately document repair orders and service recommendations
- Maintain compliance with OEM, dealership, and safety standards
- Work efficiently while ensuring high-quality workmanship
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Diesel Technician / Heavy-Duty Truck Mechanic
- Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills using scan tools/computer systems
- Proven experience with engines, transmissions, differentials, driveline, brakes, and suspension systems
- Ability to complete full repair cycles independently (diagnosis through completion)
- Must own a full professional toolset
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to obtain a CDL (if required for duties)
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE certifications and/or OEM training (International, Cummins, etc.)
- EPA 608/609 certification
- Experience in dealership or fleet maintenance environments
- Strong tenure in previous diesel/heavy-duty technician roles
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior technicians
