Job Overview

We are hiring a Diesel Mechanic to support a busy fleet maintenance operation in Medora, IN. This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty diesel trucks and fleet vehicles to ensure safe and reliable performance. Ideal candidates have strong experience in diesel engine systems, preventive maintenance, and electrical/mechanical diagnostics in a shop or fleet environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and scheduled repairs on diesel trucks and fleet vehicles
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools
  • Repair and replace components, including brakes, air systems, electrical systems, fluids, and filters
  • Respond to driver inspection reports (DVIRs) and complete corrective repairs
  • Perform roadside or field repairs when needed
  • Maintain accurate work orders, service logs, and parts documentation (paper and digital)
  • Conduct test drives and ensure completed repairs meet safety and performance standards
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic (heavy trucks or fleet maintenance preferred)
  • Strong experience with diesel engine repair and preventive maintenance
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • Hands-on experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical systems in heavy vehicles
  • Must own the required tools for the role
  • Ability to obtain DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate prior to start (required)
  • Strong attention to safety, communication, and teamwork

Preferred Experience

  • Background in trucking, fleet maintenance, bus, municipal, construction, or agricultural/heavy equipment repair
  • Experience with DVIRs, roadside repairs, and fleet service operations

Work Location & Schedule

  • On-site role in Medora, IN
  • 2nd shift schedule (2:00 PM – 12:00 AM)
  • Must be able to reliably commute (typical travel range: Brownstown, Seymour, North Vernon, Columbus area within ~45–60 minutes)
