Job Overview

Are you a seasoned Licensed Land Surveyor with strong project management experience? Join our growing team as a Land Surveyor / Project Manager and play a critical role in managing land surveying and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) projects across Virginia. You'll oversee field crews, lead technical teams, ensure quality control, manage client relationships, and contribute to business development.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects, including construction, utility mapping, land development, and infrastructure planning for both public and private sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of multiple survey field crews and office technicians.
  • Prepare, review, and approve survey plans and plats using AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley MicroStation/OpenRoads.
  • Oversee project budgets, timelines, deliverables, and billing.

  • Maintain quality control and quality assurance on all project deliverables.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and participate in business development activities.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all applicable standards.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to team members through coaching, goal setting, and performance reviews.

Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred).
  • 12+ years of land surveying experience, including management of field and office teams.
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) License in Virginia.

  • Strong knowledge of Federal, State, and local surveying regulations.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation/OpenRoads.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):

  • Experience with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) locating and designating.
  • Familiarity with VDOT standards and Hampton Roads municipal regulations.
  • Knowledge of LiDAR scanning, aerial photogrammetry, and sUAS (drone) mapping technologies.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based (95%): Standard office environment with normal working hours.
  • Field work (occasional): Exposure to varied weather conditions. Light lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required.
