We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Quality Assurance Supervisor to lead our QA team and ensure our products meet the highest quality and food safety standards. This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining food safety programs, performing audits, managing documentation, investigating quality issues, and resolving deviations and customer complaints. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, experience in manufacturing environments, and a deep understanding of FDA regulations and GMP practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, train, and motivate QA personnel, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Review and audit production paperwork, batch records, QC inspections, and sanitation reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve OOS results, deviations, NCMRs, CAPAs, and customer complaints.
- Ensure regulatory compliance through implementation and enforcement of GMP, GDP, FDA, HACCP, allergen control, and food safety standards.
- Lead discussions for MRB, food safety, and product complaint resolution.
- Coordinate reworks and NCMRs with production and inventory control teams.
- Maintain QA/QC documentation, protocols, and reports at audit-ready levels.
- Administer change control and promote Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Conduct monthly internal GMP audits across all departments and generate reports.
- Review and maintain supplier qualification records.
- Oversee employee training programs and ensure training records are up to date.
- Monitor and maintain compliance for QMS programs, including GMPs, personal hygiene, cleaning and sanitation, pest control, environmental controls, Kosher, and Halal certifications.
- Oversee equipment and instrument calibration and preventive maintenance programs.
- Support the development and updates of Food Safety and Food Defense plans.
- Assist with FDA, NSF, Kosher, Halal, Texas DSHS, and other regulatory inspections.
- Stay current with CFR regulations related to food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and drugs.
- Share knowledge and best practices with production teams and QA staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervise QA personnel, including training, work assignments, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions.
- Support the Quality Control Manager in employee interviews, performance evaluations, and team development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, microbiology, food science, or a related scientific field.
- 3-4 years of supervisory experience in quality control within the food, nutraceutical, or pharmaceutical industry.
- A master's degree in a related scientific field with 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
- Hands-on experience working on the floor of a manufacturing facility.
- Proficiency with database, manufacturing, spreadsheet, and word processing software; Oracle knowledge is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GMP, GDP, HACCP, FDA regulations, and quality management systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications such as PCQI, HACCP, or CAPA are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, talk, and hear frequently.
- Occasionally required to lift/move up to 25 pounds.
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception are required.
Work Environment
- Exposure to wet and humid conditions, moving machinery, and airborne particles.
- Moderate noise environment.
