Position Overview

Mercer is seeking a Large Market Business Developer with deep expertise in benefits consulting sales to drive new business growth across large and jumbo enterprise clients. This role focuses on acquiring and expanding relationships with organizations typically having 5,000+ employees or $2B+ revenue, with a strong emphasis on group health, retirement benefits, and HR consulting solutions.

You will lead complex, high-value sales cycles, engage executive-level stakeholders, and deliver tailored solutions that address workforce, benefits, and organizational challenges. This is a high-impact role with an annual Total Opportunity Value (TOV) target of $5M (3-year contract value equivalent).

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a pipeline of 40–50 large and jumbo enterprise prospects
  • Drive new logo acquisition and revenue growth in the large market segment
  • Build and execute strategic sales pursuit plans for complex organizations
  • Engage and influence C-suite and senior HR/Finance decision-makers
  • Lead full sales cycles including discovery, proposal development, RFP responses, negotiation, and contract closure
  • Collaborate with internal consulting, actuarial, and delivery teams to shape winning solutions
  • Develop compelling value-based proposals for group health, retirement, and HR consulting services
  • Consistently meet or exceed annual sales targets and pipeline conversion goals

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS)
  • Minimum 10+ years of B2B sales experience in benefits consulting, HR consulting, or related advisory services
  • Proven success selling into large enterprise or jumbo accounts (5,000+ employees / $2B+ revenue)
  • Strong track record of new business acquisition and revenue growth
  • Experience managing long and complex sales cycles
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence C-level executives
  • Strong understanding of employee benefits solutions, including group health and retirement plans
  • Valid Life & Health Insurance License (required)
  • Ability to articulate sales strategy, pipeline management, and deal execution approach

  • Established professional network within HR, benefits, or consulting ecosystems
  • Experience presenting at industry events, conferences, or client seminars
  • History of thought leadership or active participation in industry associations
  • Strong virtual and in-person executive relationship management skills
