Senior Controls Engineer – Industrial Automation & PLC | Orlando, FL

Salary: $110K–$140K + Bonus + ESOP

About the Role:
Wunderlich-Malec Engineering, a 100% employee-owned ESOP firm, is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer with strong PLC and electrical control system expertise to lead complex automation and system integration projects. This hands-on role blends control system design, programming, and on-site troubleshooting across industrial automation and entertainment/manufacturing projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead control system design from concept through commissioning, including hardware, software, and network integration.
  • Develop and program PLCs from scratch (Ladder Logic, Structured Text; Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens preferred).
  • Design electrical panels, perform power calculations, and ensure compliance with client and safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot, start up, and commission automated systems onsite.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and clients to optimize system performance and safety.
  • Create detailed system and software documentation, including schematics, network layouts, and test plans.
  • Support safety-critical and regulated system design (SIL/PL concepts, ASTM standards).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field with direct controls experience.
  • 8–10+ years in controls/automation engineering for industrial or manufacturing projects.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming, electrical design, and system integration.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet-based distributed I/O, field devices, and industrial hardware/software platforms.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work onsite and travel up to 30% (typical ~10%).

Preferred Skills:

  • AutoCAD experience for electrical/control design.
  • Knowledge of safety-critical environments (attractions, regulated industries).
  • Proficiency in multiple PLC languages beyond ladder logic.
