Controls Engineer – Industrial Automation | Wilmington, MA

Salary: $110,000–$125,000 | Travel: Up to 25% | Schedule: Full-Time, Mon–Fri

About the Role:
We are hiring a Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission industrial control systems for manufacturing and process industries. This hands-on role includes PLC, DCS, and HMI/SCADA programming, control panel design, instrumentation integration, database management, and system commissioning. Work will be at our Wilmington, MA office and at a client facility (~35–40 minutes away) for 1.5+ years, with mileage reimbursed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery.
  • Program PLCs (Rockwell Automation), DCS (Emerson DeltaV), and HMI/SCADA systems (Rockwell, Ignition).
  • Develop control system architecture, select components, and create schematics/documentation.
  • Integrate instrumentation, manage databases, and commission systems onsite.
  • Lead small projects and mentor junior engineers.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Control, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of experience with PLC/DCS/HMI programming and control systems design.
  • Instrumentation and process control experience.
  • Knowledge of VBA, .NET, and SQL for HMI/SCADA development.
  • Stable work history demonstrating technical expertise.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus) and automation protocols (HART, Foundation Fieldbus).
  • Electrical schematics, control panels, and NEC standards knowledge.
  • Familiarity with S88 Batch, life sciences regulations (cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11), GAMP5, and validation.
  • Leadership and client-facing experience.
