About the job Python Data Lead
Overview:
We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer with deep expertise in Python and medallion architecture to drive the enhancement and optimisation of large-scale data ingestion, processing, and cleanup pipelines. This role requires a hands-on technical leader who can both execute and architect solutions to improve data quality, scalability, and efficiency across a complex data ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and improve end-to-end data ingestion, transformation, and cleanup workflows.
- Design and maintain scalable data architectures, following medallion architecture principles (bronze, silver, gold layers).
- Work with data streams from over 100 external sources generating 300+ datasets and 1,000+ unique files and data structures.
- Ensure external data is properly configured, cleansed, deduplicated, and formatted for internal use.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business, legal, and procurement, to ensure compliance with internal policies and data governance standards.
- Identify opportunities for process automation, standardisation, and performance optimisation.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor other engineers, fostering a builder mindset and long-term architectural thinking.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong proficiency in Python for data engineering, automation, and pipeline development.
- Proven experience designing and implementing data architectures, ideally within medallion or layered data models.
- Hands-on experience with data ingestion frameworks, streaming, and ETL/ELT processes.
- Deep understanding of data quality, governance, and lifecycle management.
- Ability to think strategically and build scalable systems rather than just execute predefined tasks.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams.
- Background in leading or mentoring engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience in financial services or investment data environments.
-
Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake).
