SENIOR MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN

Main Purpose:

This role will ensure the availability of converting equipment to produce the company products, as well as execute preventative maintenance activities to improve the mechanical reliability of all machines. Maintenance activities include compliance with maintenance quality control, compliance with Engineering Codes and Standards, compliance with statutory rules & regulations, maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnostics.

Main Responsibilities:

· Ensure that the 24-hour operations are achieved by attending to priority equipment repairs and preventative maintenance activities.

· Attend to major breakdown repairs timeously.

· Ensure all maintenance work is executed in a safe and efficient manner.

· Improve on all maintenance activities that are performed by re-instating industry quality standards of work to significantly reduce rework and abnormal downtime.

· Identify root causes of equipment failures and repetitive repairs and agree on corrective action with the Site Engineer.

· Ensure spare part availability

· Play an active part in actioning and managing the factory equipment risk profile. Focus on high-priority items.

· Play an active role in processes aimed at maximising equipment reliability & reducing the cost of maintenance.

· Ensure that work performed by external service providers is executed to the agreed standard, and execution on site is performed in compliance with Twinsaver Group safety requirements.

· Ensure that safety risks are identified and that agreed corrective measures are implemented.

· Coach and develop peers to improve team skills.

· Actively drive and support all of the company's programs e.g. Safety, Health and Risk, Asset Management, Vision and Values, ISO 9001 & 14001 programs.

Education and Experience:

  • N4 or N6 in Mechanical Engineering
  • Relevant trade test
  • Minimum 10 years' post-apprentice experience
  • FMCG manufacturing environment experience
  • Advanced mechanical fault finding
  • Understanding of converting and packaging machine timing and mechanical drives
  • Ability to work in a 24-hour operation environment
  • Ability to ensure safety risks are identified and corrective measures implemented
  • Ability to coach and develop peers
